The Red Deer Rebels have lost two straight games to start the 2020-2021 WHL season.

The Medicine Hat Tigers defeated the Rebels 7-2 at Co-Op Place in Medicine Hat Saturday night.

Cole Clayton, Ryan Chyzowski, Lukas Svejkovsky and Oasiz Wiesblatt all scored in the first period for Medicine Hat, as the Tigers took a 4-0 lead into the second period.

Rebels goaltender Byron Fancy was chased 13:07 into the game after allowing four goals on 12 shots.

The Rebels were able to cut that lead in half after Chris Douglas scored 18:26 into the second period, with the assists going to Mason Ward and Jayden Grubbe, and Chase Leslie scored 4:22 into the third period, with Jaxsen Wiebe and Arshdeep Bains picking up the assists.

But that’s as close as the Rebels got.

Brayden Boehm, Brett Kemp and Noah Danielson added three more goals for the Tigers in the final frame, as Medicine Hat walked away with a 7-2 win.

Ethan Anders stopped 18 of 20 shots in relief for Red Deer – Kemp’s goal was scored on an empty net. Garin Bjorklund stopped 19 of 21 shots for the Tigers.

The Tigers had six powerplay opportunities in the game, scoring once with the man advantage. The Rebels went 0/1 on the powerplay.
