Red Deer Rebels lose final preseason tilt in Lethbridge

Despite tying it up late in the third period, the Red Deer Rebels fell 4-3 in overtime in their final preseason game against the Lethbridge Hurricanes on Saturday.

Forward Zane Saab tied the game 3-3 with less than five minutes to in regulation at the Enmax Centre in Lethbridge but the Hurricanes got the upper hand in the extra frame.

Hurricanes winger Miguel Marques notched the game-winning goal just one minute into overtime for his fourth tally of the preseason.

In the first period, Evan Smith knocked in the rebound off a Kai Uchacz shot on net but the Hurricanes toed it off the stick of Kooper Gizowski late in the frame.

Lethbridge’s Trae Wilke put the home team up 2-1 in the second before Rebels veteran D-man tied it at the midway point.

Marques gave the Hurricanes the lead in the third period before Saab tied it to send it to overtime.

Rebels goaltender Kyle Kelsey made 21 saves on 25 shots in the effort.

The next time the Rebels will hit the ice is for the home opener on Friday at the Peavey Mart Centrium against the Edmonton Oil Kings at 7 p.m.
