The Red Deer Rebels have signed prospect Evan Smith to a WHL Standard Player Agreement.

Smith, a native of Kamloops, B.C., was drafted 98th overall by the Rebels in the 2021 WHL Prospects Draft last December.

The six-foot, 155-pound right-shot forward played 14 games this season with Yale Hockey Academy Prep U17, where he had 17 points. He also posted five points in 10 games with Yale’s U18 team.

“Evan is a two-way forward with size and a high IQ who contributes in all situations,” said Rebels Associate GM Shaun Sutter.

Sutter added that the 16-year-old slipped in the WHL Prospects draft because of an injury but recently had a strong showing at the Mac’s U18 AAA Tournament in Calgary.

“Al Cyr, our B.C. Scout, had a personal connection to him which brought a lot of familiarity and belief in Evan as a player and person. He is going to be a quality player for us,” added Sutter.

Smith will be eligible to play for the Rebels next season.
