Rebels add a fourth-round pick

The Red Deer Rebels announced on Wednesday they’ve traded goaltender Chase Coward to the Prince Albert Raiders.

In return, the Rebels receive a conditional fifth-round pick in the 2024 Western Hockey League Prospects Draft.

The 20-year-old from Swift Current, Sask. played 45 regular season games for the Rebels after joining the team in 2019 as a free agent.

He played his first entire season in a Rebels uniform during the 2021-22 season where he appeared in 35 games in the regular season and eight in the playoffs.

After doctors discovered a congenital defect in the offseason, Coward did not report to training camp ahead of the 2022-23 season.

Coward rejoined the Rebels late in the campaign after he recovered from minor hip dysplasia which required two surgeries. He appeared in four regular-season games and two playoff games.

Over his career in Red Deer, Coward posted a 25-13-4 record with a 2.66 goals against average, a .904 save percentage, and two shutouts.

He also notched four wins in the postseason including a 2.65 GAA, .910 save percentage, and two shutouts.
