The Red Deer Rebels were able to get back to their winning ways in Medicine Hat this weekend.

Ben King had a goal and two assists as the Rebels topped the Tigers 5-2 at Co-Op Place in Medicine Hat Sunday evening.

Hunter Mayo, Liam Keeler and Chistoffer Sedoff put the Rebels ahead with three goals in a five-minute span in the first period.

Teague Patton and Brendan Lee scored for the Tigers in the second period to bring their team within one.

Rebels forward Arshdeep Bains scored his 17th of the year four minutes into the final frame. King picked up his second assist of the game on the Bains tally and then scored a goal of his own – his 24th of the season – 13:18 into the third period to seal Red Deer’s victory.

King is now tied for second in the Western Hockey League’s goal-scoring race, only trailing the Winnipeg ICE’s Connor McClennon, who has 25.

Rebels goaltender Connor Ungar stopped 19 of 21 in the victory, which came after consecutive losses against the Moose Jaw Warriors and Brandon Wheat Kings this past week.

The Rebels weren’t able to make it two straight wins against the Prince Albert Raiders Monday.

Seven different Prince Albert players scored as they defeated Red Deer 7-3 at the Peavey Mart Centrium.

Hayden Pakkala, Reece Vitelli, Sloan Stanick, Remy Aquilon, Landon Kosior, Evan Herman and Harrison Lodewyk scored for the Raiders. Keeler scored twice for the Rebels and Bains added the team’s other tally.

Raiders goaltender Tikhon Chaika stopped 26 of 29 shots. Chase Coward, who got the start for the Rebels, allowed four goals on 19 shots. Ungar allowed three goals on seven shots after he was brought into the game for Red Deer.

The Rebels will visit Lethbridge to take on the Hurricanes Friday night. Red Deer will then host the Moose Jaw Warriors at 7 p.m. Saturday at the Peavey Mart Centrium.
