Padres 3 Riggers 2
The Edmonton Padres snapped a seven-game losing skid Monday night with a narrow victory over the Red Deer Riggers.
In the first Sunburst Baseball League meeting between the two squads this season, the Padres came out hot with a pair of runs in the bottom of the first, before adding a single run in the fifth. The Riggers scored a pair in the top half of the seventh but the comeback fell just short.
Logan Colville drove in two runs for the Padres and Everett Stewart threw a complete game, allowing two runs while striking out three.
Left-fielder Jaden Lamothe did all the damage for the Riggers, launching a two-run homer in the seventh in his only at-bat of the night.
Rees DeRuyter pitched four innings and allowed two earned runs, while striking out three. Anthony Chatwood allowed an unearned run in one inning of work and Dustin Northcott pitched a scoreless inning.
Zach Olsen, Corbyn Shields and Gavin Galenza each had a hit for Red Deer. Next up, the Riggers will travel to Pogadl Park in Sylvan Lake to host the Padres on July 4.
