Red Deer Riggers lose playoff opener in Sherwood Park

The Red Deer Riggers had a tough opening night in the Sunburst Baseball League playoffs.

In Sherwood Park for game 1 of the best-of-three series, the Athletics shutout Red Deer 6-0.

Sheldon Jones tossed a complete-game shutout for the A’s, while Matt Quartel knocked in three RBI and Greg Wallace cashed two more runs.

Game 2 goes Thursday at Great Chief Park with first pitch at 7:30 p.m. If necessary, Red Deer will also host the Athletics on Friday at 7:30 p.m. at Great Chief Park.
