Red Deer Riggers pick up comeback win over Sherwood Park

The Red Deer Riggers are rolling midway through the Sunburst Baseball League season.

After a slow start to the year, they picked up their fourth straight victory and moved to 5-4 on the campaign. Tuesday night they avoided the rain and earned an 11-8 win against the Sherwood Park Athletics at Great Chief Park.

Zach Olson led the way for the Riggers on offence with two singles and a triple to go along with a pair of RBI.Josh Edwards and Ty Russell also pitched in for the home side, each cashing two RBI on the night. Kevin Curran had a pair of singles.

Joel Peterman and Davin Gulbransen combined for the win on the mound. Peterman went four innings, allowing eight hits and four runs. Gulbransen pitched three innings and also allowed four runs.

The Riggers led 5-0 after the first and 7-1 after two innings.

For the Athletics, Brett Higgins had two singles and a solo home run. Craig Thomas struggled on the mound for the visitors, giving up seven hits and eight runs in just two innings of work.

On Monday, Edwards tossed a gem in a 6-1 win over the Athletics in Sherwood Park. He threw a complete game with 10 strikeouts to earn the victory.

On the weekend, the Riggers will make their annual trip to St. Albert for the Tigers tournament.
