The Red Deer Riggers got their first win of the Sunburst League season on Friday night.

On the road in St. Albert, the Riggers took down the Tigers 4-3 at the Legion Memorial Ball Park to improve to 1-2 on the season.

It's been a slow start to the Riggers season falling to the Calgary Rockies and Edmonton Cubs to start the 2024 campaign. The Riggers struggled at the plate but on Friday their bats came alive.

After leading 4-0 after three innings, the Tigers scored three unanswered runs in the bottom of the fifth to give the Riggers a scare. However, Red Deer weathered the storm and sealed the deal with a road victory.

Starting pitcher Josh Edwards, catcher Kyle Belich, and shortstop Mason Love-Hollman each recorded an RBI at the plate.

Meanwhile, Edwards had a great outing on the mound holding the Tigers to just three hits through four innings of work. He also struck out six batters and allowed no runs.

Starko, Anthony Chatwood, and Kai Poffenroth rounded out the rest of the rotation each pitching one inning in the win.

They'll play again on the road on Monday against the Calgary Diamondbacks before returning home for a rematch at Gulls Stadium on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.
