Baseball season is right around the corner.

With the recent release of the Senior AAA Sunburst League schedule, the Red Deer Riggers will begin their season on the road. They’ll face the Calgary Rockies on Friday, May 10 at the Webber Academy Athletic Park at 7:30 p.m.

The Riggers’ home opener will then take place the following week on Tuesday, May 14 against the Edmonton Cubs at 7:30 p.m. All Riggers home games this season will be played at Great Chief Park.

Red Deer will wrap up the regular season with their home tournament scheduled to run from Friday, July 19 to Sunday the 21st.

Last season the Riggers fell in the league semi-finals 6-3 to the Calgary Rockies. The Rockies went on to lose to the Sherwood Park A’s in the championship finals.

However, the Riggers season wasn’t done quite yet as they hosted the 2023 Men’s Senior AAA National Championship in August at Great Chief Park.

Throughout the four-day tournament, the Riggers went 1-3 against the top teams in Canada missing the quarterfinals.

Team Quebec went on to defeat Team Saskatchewan 6-5 with a walk-off home run in the final inning of the gold medal game.
