Red Deer Rustlers beat Morinville Kings in Game 5, advance to NCHL final

The Red Deer Rustlers are headed to the ship.

Red Deer knocked off the Morinville Kings 3-1 Sunday night on the road in Game 5 of the best-of-five series to clinch a spot in the North Central Senior AA Hockey League final.

Landon Kletke and goalie Mike Salmon led the way for the Rustlers Sunday. Kletke had a pair of goals, including what turned out to be the game-winner with 6:09 to go in the first period. Salmon was first star on the night with 35 saves, including nine in the third period.

Tucker Scantlebury also had a goal and an assists for Red Deer in the victory.

The Rustlers had a 2-o series lead but lost a pair of games to the Kings, including a 6-1 defeat Saturday in Penhold which forced Game 5 Sunday.

Red Deer will play the Daysland Northstars in the league final starting next weekend.
