The top under 16 and 18 male and female rugby players from across Alberta will converge on Titans Rugby Park this weekend.

For the first time, Red Deer is set to host the Alberta Regional rugby Championships (ARC), with play kicking off Friday afternoon at 1 p.m. The finals are 2:30 and 3:30 p.m. on Sunday.

Teams include Southern Alberta, Central Alberta, as well as Calgary and Edmonton in two age categories (U16 and u18). Following the championships, players will be selected to represent the Alberta Wolfpack at Western Canadian Championships later this summer.

In addition to the ARC, both Alberta senior men’s and women’s teams will play exhibition matches on the weekend. The Alberta Senior Women will play a split-squad match at Titans Park on Friday night. Saturday at 7 p.m. at Great Chief Park, the Wolfpack will play team B.C., with several of those players set to represent Canada in Japan at the Rugby World Cup.
