A fifteen-year-old from Red Deer is the Alberta Sport Development Centre – Central’s female athlete of the month.

Ruby Butler, a grade 10 student at École secondaire Notre Dame High School, has been a competitive artistic gymnast at Exelta Gymnastics for the past 10 years.

Now in her third year with ASDC-C, both Butler and her coach, Barb Bilsborrow said, that ASDC has helped her remain positive and overcome some of her specific fears on the balance beam.

Butler was enrolled in gymnastics since she was 14-months-old, and loved somersaulting, climbing and trampolining.

She began competitive gymnastics when she was four and still gets excited to go to the gym and practice every day.

The gymnast maintains honors academic status at school while training over 22 hours every week. She also coaches in the Exelta’s recreation program every week.
