Next week Red Deer will host 114 athletes for the 2023 Team Alberta Female Summer Camp.
From July 11-16, the best female hockey players in the province will attend two camps at the Gary W. Harris Canada Games Centre in Red Deer.
First on the docket is the U18 camp, which will have 72 female hockey players in attendance. These players will be evaluated on the ice and in the classroom in hopes of making a shortlist to return to fall camp and securing a spot on Team Alberta at a national event.
On Thursday, July 13 the U16 players will join to begin their own camp that concludes on the 16.
Those invited were scouted throughout the season and at the Alberta Challenge that took part in Red Deer last May. The U16 camp is designed to introduce the girls to the Team Alberta process.
“We’ve had the opportunity to watch and evaluate these players at various events and have watched them develop over the years,” said Kendall Newell, Hockey Alberta’s Manager of Female Hockey in a media release. “We are confident that the talent that will be showcased at camp represents a bright future for Team Alberta.”
Among central Albertans who were invited to the U18 camp include Sydney Grover (Olds), Jayde Sansregret (Red Deer), Jayden Olfason (Stettler), Presley Zinger (Red Deer), and Raya Hastings (Red Deer).
Furthermore, the U16 camp roster includes Brylee Hull (Sylvan Lake), Bree Prediger (Rocky Mountain House), Summer Greiner (Stettler), Parker Small (Sylvan Lake), Jensyn Stephenson (Bentley), and Ceder Thorburn (Olds).
