The Red Deer Vipers absolutely blew the doors off the rink in their second game of the 2022-23 Heritage Junior Hockey League season.

After opening the season with a 3-2 loss to the Strathmore Wheat Kings, Red Deer stormed back with a 25-1 victory over the Ponoka Stampeders Sunday.

Red Deer had 91 shots on goal in the win, with 13 goals in the first period, eight in the second and four in the third.

Kayden Robinson led the way for the Vipers with a hat trick and five assists, while assistant captain Andrew Wallace potted a hat trick himself, along with four assists. Captain Kyle Wallace had two goals and four assists, while Marcus Laisnez had three goals and two assists. Kobe Karol, Lyden Robertson and Brandon Kalinowski each had four points in the victory. Dawson Jones, Boyd Cota and Alex Lister all chipped in three points.

Tade Tonneson made 51 saves in net for Ponoka in relief of Robert Olaveson, who allowed 10 goals on 25 shots over 18 minutes.

The Vipers play back-to-back road games next weekend, travelling to Coaldale Saturday, followed by a visit to Medicine Hat Sunday.

In other HJHL action Saturday, the Okotoks Bisons knocked off the Three Hills Thrashers 9-3, High River beat the Rocky Mountain House 5-4 and the Airdrie Thunder downed the Mountainview Colts 4-3.
