Red Deer Vipers even up series with big comeback

The Red Deer Vipers evened their best-of-seven series with the Mountainview Colts after a four-goal third period outburst led to a 6-4 win in Heritage Junior B Hockey League play.

The Red Deer Vipers evened their best-of-seven series with the Mountainview Colts after a four-goal third period outburst led to a 6-4 win in Heritage Junior B Hockey League play.

At home for game two, the Vipers fell behind 3-0 in the first period Friday night and allowed the first goal of the second before jumping on the comeback trail.

At 13:14 of the second Logan Linnell converted on the power play and scored again three and a half minutes later to close the gap to two.

Linnell assisted on two of the Vipers third-period goals and finished the night with four points. In 10 playoff games Linnell has 11 goals and 19 points.

The four-goal explosion in the third was started by Spence Yeats, before Kale Lapointe tied the game at four with just over seven minutes left in the period. Lapointe also had a four-point night, with a goal and three assists.

Declan Johnson scored the game-winning goal and only his third of the playoffs at 16:03.

Mack Differenz scored the final goal of the night for Red Deer 1:33 to play.

Brandon Bilodeau relieved Cole Sears and was perfect with 14 saves to earn the win in net for Red Deer.

The Vipers are back on the ice for game three of the series in Didsbury with puck drop set for 8 p.m.

The series returns to Red Deer on Tuesday at 8 p.m.
