The Red Deer Vipers’ quest to secure a spot in the Heritage Junior B Hockey League (HJHL) playoffs continues this weekend.

Red Deer, who are currently two points back from the final playoff spot in the north division, suffered a setback on Saturday losing to the Three Hills Thrasher 6-2 at Servus Arena.

Fortunately for the Vipers, the Airdrie Techmation Thunder, who hold the final playoff spot with 24 points, also lost both of their weekend games against Strathmore and Mountainview.

The Vipers’ fate will come down to a three-game weekend beginning with a very important matchup with the Thunder on Friday at the Rob Ebbeson Arena at 8:15 p.m.

This season the Vipers are 2-1 in three games against Airdrie scoring 11 goals to their nine goals.

On Saturday they’ll return home to take on the Strathmore Wheatland Kings at 8 p.m. followed by a Sunday game against the division-leading Sylvan Lake Wranglers at 7 p.m.
