Vipers 8 Rams 6
The Red Deer Vipers had plenty of jump on home ice Saturday night.
From the hop, the Vipers were flying, scoring three times in the first period on the way to an 8-6 victory over the Rocky Mountain House Rams.
Forward Boyd Cota opened the scoring for Red Deer, with another goal by Marcus Laisnez less than two minutes later.
With three minutes remaining in the first, Nate Thompson extended the Vipers’ lead to 3-0. However, just over 30 seconds later, the Rams cut the deficit.
In the second period, Thompson scored his second of the game just over six minutes in, followed by a Brennan Jack tally less than a minute later.
Rocky Mountain House managed to cut the deficit to three heading into the third period.
In the final frame, both teams piled on the goals– including a Kaiden Robinson goal just a minute in. The Rams refused to go away and scored back-to-back goals to get within two.
That’s as close as they would get as the two squads traded goals for the remainder of the period. Kobe Karol and Kyle Wallace scored the final two goals for the Vipers.
Sunday, the Sylvan Lake Wranglers beat Three Hills 9-3, with seven different goal scorers finding the scoresheet. Austin Corsiatto also added a pair of goals and two assists. The Wranglers lost 10-1 to Cochrane on Saturday.
Sylvan Lake sits first in the HJHL North Division with a 9-3 record, while Red Deer is third at 5-6-1.
