Red Deer’s cross-country skier named athlete of the month

A Grade 10 Lindsay Thurber Comprehensive High School student was named the Alberta Sport Development Centre – Central athlete of the month for March.

A Grade 10 Lindsay Thurber Comprehensive High School student was named the Alberta Sport Development Centre – Central athlete of the month for March.

Owen Pimm, 16, is a cross-country ski and triathlon athlete who competes with the Red Deer Nordic Ski Club and Cross Country Skiing Alberta Development Team.

From March 13-15, Pimm competed at the Haywood Cross Country Ski Nationals in Thunder Bay, Ont.

In February, Pimm won gold in the juvenile boys sprint freestlye at the Alberta Winter Games. He also won gold in the juvenile boys 10-kilometre relay at the Haywood Western Championships.

Earlier this year, Pimm finished fifth at the Canadian Birkebeiner 31-kilometre race.

Pimm is a member of Triathlon Alberta’s development squad and finished third in Alberta at the 2017 provincials (14- and 15-year-old boys) and second in 2016 provincials.

At the 2016 Alberta Summer Games, Pimm finished sixth in triathlon.

An honours student in math and science, Pimm plans on attending medical school.
