The 100th Central Alberta Amateur tournament at the Red Deer Golf and Country Club lived up to the hype with a nail-biting finish on Monday.

Red Deer’s Dan Soley won in an extra playoff hole against Jordan Krulicki shooting three over par in the three-day event.

Soley said when he made his birdie putt on the playoff hole he felt he got lucky as the ball was rolling fast along the green.

“I’m pretty happy it went in but it was a good tournament we had fun,” Soley told the Advocate. “It wasn’t as nervewracking as it could have been I’m sure cause we had the weather on our minds. But it was good for playoffs and we didn’t get wet so it was good.”

The Red Deer Country Club hosted 155 of some of the province’s best golfers at one of its biggest competitions of the summer. Soley, who has been a member of the club for 18 years and has competed in the Amateur since then, previously won the competition in 2013.

“This one’s a good tournament. It’s a lot of fun but it’s also a lot of good players play in it so to win is a feather in your cap,” he added.

This is usually one of two tournaments Soley will play throughout the summer, the other being the club championship which he has won five times.

The Senior Championship was won by James Varnam at one over par and Senior Match Play was taken by James Wesenberg with 11 points.
