Red Deer’s Jeremiah Lauzon will don the maple leaf once again.
On Thursday the Canadian Olympic Committee and Athletics Canada announced Lauzon, along with 26 others, will compete for their country at the Santiago 2023 Pan American Games as part of the Canadian national track and field team.
The Pan Am games begin on Oct. 20 to Nov. 5 and will be Lauzon’s second time representing Canada on the international stage. In 2019 he competed in the U20 Pan Am Games in Costa Rica where he made the final and finished fifth.
The 23-year-old is a member of the Alberta Speed School track club in Red Deer where he’s coached by Ronald Hewer. He’s also a member of the men’s track and field team at West Texas A and M University.
So far in 2023, Lauzon has posted personal bests in multiple competitions. At the Lone Star Conference Championships in February, he ran 21.09 seconds in the 200-metre race in Lubbock, Texas.
In June during the outdoor season, Lauzon ran 10.61 seconds during the 100-metre race in the Johnny Loaring Classic in Windsor.
Also in outdoor competition, he posted 20.59 in the 200-metre race in May at the Lone Star Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Lubbock.
