Red Deer’s Ken Griffith finishes runner-up at Alberta Men’s Mid-Master Championship

Shot an impressive five under par in round two

The Alberta Men’s Mid-Master Championship at Olds Golf Club has wrapped up after an exciting final round on Thursday.

The three-day event was cut short to just two days after the competition was rained out on the tournament’s opening round on Tuesday.

Country Hills Golf Club’s Jamie Welder took home the title after shooting a combined score of five under par after shooting 72 and 67.

Close behind him was Red Deer Golf and Country Club’s Ken Griffith who surged up the leaderboard on the second day.

After shooting a two-over-par 74 in the first round, Griffth climbed 12 spots on Thursday with an impressive five-under-par score of 67. In total, the Red Deer resident shot a combined three under par.

Other central Albertans who competed include Red Deer Golf and Country Club’s Dan Soley (three over par), Lacombe Golf and Country Club’s Tom Jr. McKinlay (seven over par), Lacombe Golf and Country Club’s Bobby McKinlay (nine over par), Red Deer Golf and Country Club’s Peter Innes (10 over par), and Olds Golf Club’s Robert Wesenn (11 over par).

Meanwhile, Olds Golf Club’s Brett Allan, Red Deer Golf and Country Club’s Gerald Tardif, and Lacombe’s Golf and Country Club’s George Saganis did not make the cut after the first day.

Lacombe Golf and Country Club’s Lorne Riffin made the cut but withdrew from the competition.
