Red Deer native Mike Moller was officially immortalized on Friday when he was inducted into the Lethbridge Hurricanes Wall of Honour.
Moller, alongside Nathan Barrett and Bob Loucks, was honoured at the Enmax Centre when the Hurricanes hosted the Winnipeg Ice Friday evening.
Moller was inducted into the legend category for his play with the Lethbridge Broncos for three seasons from 1979-82. During that time he played in 191 regular season games contributing 110 goals and 191 assists for 301 points. In 25 playoff games with the Broncos, he had 39 points.
In 1981-82 he won the WHL’s Brad Horning Memorial trophy for being the most sportsmanlike player and was named a first-team all-star.
In 1982 Moller was selected to Canada’s National Junior team that won the country’s first-ever World Junior Championship. Moller added 14 points in just seven games en route to the gold medal win.
He also had a long career in the National Hockey League drafted by the Buffalo Sabres in the second round of the 1980 NHL Entry Draft. He played 134 games in the NHL with the Sabres as well as the Edmonton Oilers and won the 1983 Calder Cup in the American Hockey League with the Rochester Americans.
On top of his legendary playing career, Moller also served as the Red Deer Rebels colour analyst for 23 years before retiring in the 2020-21 season. He served alongside current play-by-play broadcaster Troy Gillard and former voice of the Rebels Cam Moon.
Red Deer Rebels owner, general manager, and president Brent Sutter, alongside brothers Darryl, Duane, Brian, and Ron were also inducted into the Wall of Honour in 2009.
