Red Deer’s own Nate Danielson is headed to the National Hockey League.
On Wednesday evening he was selected ninth overall by the Detroit Red Wings at the 2023 NHL Entry Draft in Nashville.
The 18-year-old forward has played the last three seasons with the Western Hockey League’s Brandon Wheat Kings and was named captain prior to the 2022-23 season.
During that time he’s amassed 59 goals and 91 assists for 150 points in 145 games.
With the ninth overall selection, Danielson becomes the second-highest Red Deerian to be drafted that high since Glen Wesley was selected third overall by the Boston Bruins in 1987.
