Serin Girard needed a little bit extra to capture a victory on the Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour At Meadowlands Golf Club in Sylvan Lake over the weekend.

Girard, 11, needed an extra hole in the two-round event to win the MJT Girls U15 Division. The Red Deer native was tied at 170 with Rocky Mountain House product Saylar May after 36 holes. Girard hit a 10-foot putt to win on the first playoff hole.

“I felt excited coming into this MJT event and winning feels really good,” she said.

“Sinking the 10-footer in the playoff when I needed to make one was awesome.”

Red Deer’s Bennett Love finished fifth in the Peewee boys age group, shooting 78, 84.

Fin Vermette of Sylvan Lake and Kohen Rea of Red Deer tied for fifth in the bantam boys age group, with a two-day total of 165.

In the two-day event, 83 players were competing in six divisions in the second last Junior Tour stop in the province this season. The final Alberta event this season, the MJT Ford Series at RedTail Landing Golf Club in Nisku, takes place Sept. 11 and 12.
