Red Deer’s Ty Daneault and multiple Blackfalds Bulldogs named finalists for AJHL awards

Awards will be announced at seasons end

The Alberta Junior Hockey League (AJHL) has announced the award finalists for the 2022-23 season.

The list of seven awards includes plenty of familiar names from central Alberta.

Red Deer’s Ty Daneault, who plays for the Drumheller Dragons, was a finalist for the league’s Most Valuable Player and the Top Forward award.

Daneault is fifth in the league with 33 goals in 45 games and leads the Dragons with 59 points. The Dragons have clinched a playoff spot and are currently in fourth place in the South Division with a 28-18-4-2 record.

Meanwhile, Blackfalds Bulldogs Layne Loomer is a finalist for Rookie of the Year, and Tanner Willick for Outstanding Defenceman.

Blackfalds has also clinched a playoff spot sitting in third place in the South Division five points ahead of the Dragons with seven games remaining.

The winners of the awards will be announced following the end of the regular season throughout the AJHL playoffs.
