Young golfers from across the province gathered this week at Alberta Springs Golf Resort for a chance to be crowned a champion.
Six provincial titles were awarded at the Alberta U17, U15 and U13 Championship Alberta Golf event.
Rocky Mountain House’s Saylar May won the U15 title after shooting even par over the two-day tournament. She was lights out in round one with a four-under 68, before firing a 76 Tuesday to capture the win.
“It feels really good, I’ve had a really good season so far. I’ve never really played well at this course before. I shot four under (in round one) so that felt really good. Had some struggles (Tuesday), but was still able to get it done,” May told Alberta Golf post-round.
May beat out Justine Leon by one stroke to claim the victory. Kali Yeske of Calgary was third with a four-over-par two-day score.
“My wedges were really good this week, which is usually my weakness,” May said, adding her whole family was out to watch her play.
Hannah Thomas of Calgary, representing the Glencoe Golf and Country Club captured the U13 Girls title with a two-round total of eight-over 152. She was eight strokes clear of Elle Banister of Sirocco Golf Club and Danika Horcica of Edmonton was third.
Calgary’s Tessa Ion finished the two-day tournament at three-over, good for an 11-stroke victory over Shopie Dhaliwal in the U17 girls category. Emma Liu of Edmonton was third.
Sherwood Park’s Harrison Kiziak won the U15 Boys title with a score of four-under-par. He was just one stroke up on Jalen Apedoe and two ahead of Chase Strang.
Jayden Arnold was the champion in the U13 Boys age group, firing a five-under-par two-day total for the victory. Jake Fairey was second and Red Deer’s Bennett Love was third with an even-par score over the two-day tournament.
Calgary’s Charlie Gillespie won the U17 title with a five-under two-round score and Tobias Buffam was second at three-under. Mateo Kern, Peter Hlushak and Becker Gilewich tied for third at two-under.
