Sabres win take provincial silver

The Sabres captured silver in the 3A boys’ division in Chestermere, losing 67-58 to Cochrane in the final.

The Camrose Trojans finished fifth with a 77-40 win over Peace Wapiti of Grande Prairie. The Trojans downed Crescent Heights of Calgary 74-45 in the semifinal.

On the girls’ side, Camrose lost 77-59 to Edmonton Christian in the consolation semifinal.

St. Albert Catholic downed Monsignor McCoy of Medicine Hat 74-63 in the final.

• The Raymond Comets captured the 4A boys’ title at Ross Sheppard in Edmonton with an 82-76 win over Western Canada of Calgary.

The Notre Dame Cougars finished with a 0-3 record after losing 75-73 to Grande Prairie in overtime.

Dario Viveros had 30 points, Jordan Handel 27 and John Goranson 11 points and 16 rebounds for the Cougars, who lost their three games by a total of 13 points.

On the girls’ side, Western Canada beat Sir Winston Churchill of Calgary 89-76 in the final.

The Hunting Hills Lightning, finished with a 1-2 record after downing Westwood of Fort McMurray 54-32 Saturday.

Teighan Ponto had nine points and Whitney Robinson eight for the Lightning.

• The Rimbey Spartans finished fourth in the 2A boys’ championships in Didsbury, losing 75-43 to West Island College of Calgary in the bronze medal contest.

Kevin Vandenhoven had 22 points for the Spartans.

Picture Butte, who beat Rimbey in the semifinal, downed Le Crete 75-59 in the final.

Prairie Christian of Three Hills lost 80-68 to Didsbury in the consolation semifinal.

In girls’ action in Three Hills, the host Prairie Christian beat Immanuel Christian of Lethbridge 78-70 to win gold.

They downed J.C. Charyk of Hanna 60-43 in the semifinal.

Central Alberta Christian High School of Lacombe, won their final two games after losing 73-55 to Calgary Christian in their opener.

They downed Le Crete 51-48 after stopping Oilfields 73-43.

Erin Wiersma led CACHS with 36 points against Calgary, 33 against the Oilfields and 25 against Le Crete.

• Livingstone beat Acme 99-55 in the 1A boys’ final in Calgary.

Hay Lakes lost all three of their starts, to Ecole de la Rose, St. Anthony’s of Drumheller and Ashmont.

The host Ryley squad finished second in the 1A girls’ division, losing 38-26 to St. Michael’s of Bow Island.

Ryley downed Acme 48-39 and St. Michael’s beat Bawlf 58-34 in the semifinals.

Bawlf took third place with a 63-52 win over Acme.

Daysland lost 82-69 to Worsley in the consolation final.
