Saskatoon Contacts beat Optimist Rebels

CALGARY — The Red Deer Optimist Rebels hopes of reaching the playoffs in the boys’ side of the Mac’s AAA midget hockey tournament took a blow Tuesday as they dropped a 5-1 decision to the Saskatoon Contacts.

The loss left the Rebels with a 2-1-0 record with a game today against the 3-0-0 UFA Bisons at 11:45 a.m. at Father David Bauer Arena.

Justin Faux opened the scoring for the Rebels, who trailed 2-1 and 4-1 by periods.

Mac Engel faced 18 shots in the Red Deer net while his teammates had 23 shots on goal.

On the girls’ side the Red Deer Sutter Fund Chiefs, 1-1-1, had Tuesday off and met the Notre Dame Hounds, 2-1-0, at 8 a.m. today.
