Saunders, Kalbfleisch earn RDP Athletes of the Week honours

A memorable performance on the pitch and a strong run highlighted top performances from RDP athletes over the weekend.

A memorable performance on the pitch and a strong run highlighted top performances from RDP athletes over the weekend.

First-year Queens soccer forward Paige Kalbfleisch was named RDP Female Athlete of the Week and cross country runner Devin Saunders took home the RDP Male Athlete of the Week honour.

Against the Lethbridge College Kodiaks Sunday, Kalbfleisch had a monumental performance in the south semi-finals.

The Sherwood Park product assisted on the Queens’ first goal, which tied the game in the 78th minute. Then in double overtime, she scored in the 105th minute, helping RDP earn a 2-1 road decision. She was named the Queens Player of the Game.

In Friday’s 7-3 quarter-final win over the University of Alberta Augustana Vikings, she also assisted on the Queens’ opening goal.

Saunders, a third-year athlete had an outstanding race for the Kings at the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference Grand Prix three on Saturday.

Saunders finished fifth in the race with a personal best time of 27 minutes and 49 seconds in the 8 kilometre race. His performance helped the Kings finished second as a team at the event.
