Mitch Irvine of Red Deer, a right side with the RDC Kings, has been selected as a member of the Canadian junior men’s volleyball team. Irvine is one of 14 players named to the national squad, 12 of whom will compete in the 2009 FIBB Junior (U21) Men’s World Championship July 31-August 9 in Pune, India. “Canada’s best battled hard during the selection camp for the honour of representing their country at the Junior World Championships,” said Canadian coach Chris Green, following a four-day camp in Winnipeg. “Every player who attended this camp worked to their maximal effort to be a member of this junior national team, and this made the selections very difficult. We have also just found out that we have been placed in the very difficult preliminary Pool D along with Brazil, Russia and Poland, and knowing this we will start training immediately with these opponents in mind.”
