Beck leads Alberta
Red Deer’s Breanna Beck played a major role in Alberta capturing the belle A division at the Western Canadian ringette championships in Saskatoon.
Alberta champion Calgary Fortius added the 17-year-old Beck for goaltending depth and she turned out to be the top netminder in the championships.
Beck posted a 3-0 record, allowing only five goals and sporting an outstanding .952 save percentage.
It was the third straight year for Beck to compete in the Western finals. Last year she helped the Red Deer team take second place. Alberta teams also won the tween and junior divisions at the Western finals and was second in the open class.
Silver Sharks solid in Calgary
CALGARY — Three members of the Red Deer Silver Sharks Masters Swim Club turned in solid performances at a long course meet at the Talisman Centre during the weekend,
Chantal Boos, competing in the 30-34 year-old age class, won the 100-metre freestyle in one minute 13.47 seconds and the 200m freestyle in 2:43.72. She was second in the 50m backstroke in 45.56 seconds, the 50m freestyle in 34.12 seconds and the 1,500m freestyle in 23:47.58. She was third in the 50m breaststroke in 50.10 seconds.
Dawn Detarando won the 40-44 year-old 400m freestyle in 6:18.23 and the 50m freestyle in 37.44 seconds while taking second in the 100m freestyle (1:20.67) and 200m freestyle (3:09.56) and third in the 50m backstroke (47.92).
Deb Langvand won the 50-54 year-old 50m freestyle in 36.03 seconds while taking second in the 50m backstroke (43.87) and 50m butterfly (41.58) and third in the 100m freestyle (1:21.83) and 50m breaststroke (48.35).
