Titans’ men, women start training at park

The Red Deer Titans men’s and women’s teams are training at Titans Rugby Park, with the next session set for 7 p.m. Thursday.

All interested players 18 years of age and older are asked to contact Dan at 403-505-9697 or Ciaran at 403-783-1545.

The Titans men’s teams compete in the Calgary Rugby Union First and Third divisions, while the women’s team is a member of the Alberta Premier Division.

The Titans’ new coach, John Keepa from New Zealand, arrived in Red Deer Monday.

Grizzly Orban nabs scholarship

Olds Grizzlys forward Brance Orban is the Alberta Junior Hockey League recipient of a RBC junior A scholarship.

Orban will attend Bemidji State University on a U.S. college scholarship next fall.

Players named to Senior Bowl

Hunting Hills Lightning offensive lineman Shane Porter and Sylvan Lake Lakers receiver Andrew Jevne have been named to the North team for the Alberta Senior Bowl to be played during the May long weekend in Calgary.

The graduating Central Alberta high school football athletes were selected during a camp in Edmonton last weekend.

The South team will be selected at a camp Friday to Sunday in Calgary.

Lacrosse Chiefs fall to Warriors

Shane Gasser, John Goranson, Eric Reierson, Liam Revell and Spencer Lee scored in a losing cause as the Red Deer KFC Chiefs fell 8-5 to the Edmonton Warriors in midget A lacrosse action Monday.

Orrin Ferries and Jesse Tomblin shared goaltending duties for the Chiefs.

The Chiefs were 1-1 in weekend action. Results are as follows:

Red Deer KFC 9 Edmonton Blues 5

Red Deer: Spencer Lee 3, Shane Gasser 2, Connor Hartley, Brenden Mandrusiak, John Goranson, Eric Reierson. Winning goalie: Jesse Tomblin.

Sherwood Park 8 Red Deer 6

Red Deer: Hartley 3, Gasser, Mandrusiak, Taylor Steele. Losing goalie: Orrin Farries.
