Shannon Court accounted for 28 points with four tries and four conversions as the visiting Red Deer Titans thrashed Lethbridge 63-15 Saturday to capture the Calgary Rugby Union women’s first division rugby championship.

Monica Hehli scored three tries for the Titans, who will face the Edmonton Rockets in the provincial final this Saturday at Calgary. Single tries were added by Melissa Wyntjes, Aly Bowd, Emily Stearns and Elsie Budwill.

• The Titans first division men got two tries from Dean Plant in a 36-14 loss to the Calgary Irish. Wade Moore added two conversions in a losing cause as the Titans fell to 5-6 and take on the powerful Calgary Hornets — who have four players on the Canadian Rugby Championship League’s Calgary Wolfpack — this Saturday.

• The Titans under-18 boys and girls will play for the Edmonton League titles Wednesday at Ellerslie.

The Titans U18 boys earned their berth in the final when the St. Albert squad forfeited Sunday’s scheduled playoff game.

Both Red Deer teams will face the Edmonton Clan.


Senior baseball co-champs crowned

Co-champions were declared in each of the two categories of the Third Annual Doug Bradford Memorial Baseball Tournament at Great Chief Park when Sunday’s scheduled championship games were rained out.

The Clive Red Sox and Cadogan Nighthawks shared top honours in the 30-and-over division. Clive defeated Red Deer Del Rohn in semifinal play, while Cadogan reached the final with a win over the Spruce Grove Eagles.

The Red Deer Cheers Pub Snowbirds and Saskatoon Sportsmen were named co-winners of the 45-and-over category. In semifinal action, the Snowbirds defeated Provost and Saskatoon downed Red Deer Printing Place.
