Sports briefs – June 11

The Red Deer Razorbacks scored three times in the top of the seventh inning to record a 13-10 Parkland Baseball League victory over the Eckville Expos Tuesday.

Razorbacks edge Expos

ECKVILLE — The Red Deer Razorbacks scored three times in the top of the seventh inning to record a 13-10 Parkland Baseball League victory over the Eckville Expos Tuesday.

Don Von Hollen, who slammed a solo home run in the third inning, drove in the winning run in the seventh for the Razorbacks, who improved their record to 4-3.

Darcy Warawa was three-for-four with a two-run double and Devan Bell had a two-run single for the Red Deer crew.

Warawa pitched the final two innings of shutout ball in relief of starter Evan Emerson to pick up the victory.

Kyle French was four-four with three doubles for the Expos.

The Razorbacks take on Lacombe Friday at 7 p.m. at Great Chief Park 2.

Cougars clinch first

The Notre Dame Cougars wrapped up first place in the Central Alberta High School Girls’ Soccer League with a 7-0 win over Eckville Tuesday.

The Cougars will compete in the league playoffs Saturday, beginning at 9 a.m. at Edgar Park.

Slammers squeak by Olds

The Red Deer Source For Sports Slammers edged Olds 17-16 in squirt C fastball league play Monday.

Janine Kriel and Isabelle St. Pierre shared pitching duties for the Slammers while St. Pierre had a home run and Alexis Reid-Carey had a single and two doubles in three trips to the plate.
