BLACKFALDS — A third-period goal by Kyle Maas was the winner as the Blackfalds Wranglers downed the Cochrane Generals 6-5 in Heritage Junior B Hockey League playoff action Friday.

Also scoring for the Wranglers, who pulled into a 2-2 tie in the best-of-five league semifinal and forced a fifth and deciding game tonight at Cochrane, were Wyatt Fraser, Scott Maetche, Liem Weise, Jared Ramstead and Karson French.

Layne Swier and Tanner Schalin combined to make 27 saves for Blackfalds, which held a 50-31 advantage in shots.

FORT SASKATCHEWAN – Curtis Austring fired three goals as the Bentley Generals crushed the Fort Saskatchewan Chiefs 12-2 Friday to capture the Alberta senior AAA hockey championship.

Paul Cabana, Travis Brigley and Scott Hood each scored twice for the Generals, who swept the best-of-seven series and will host the B.C champion in the McKenzie Cup (Alberta-B.C.) series at the Red Deer Arena the first week of April. The winner will advance to the Allan Cup tournament at Kenora, Ont., later in the month.

Also scoring for Bentley were Donald Morrison, Brandin Cote and Jeff Hansen. Jamie Marshall and Mike Hurley replied for the Chiefs.

Winning netminder Scott Galenza stopped 22 shots. David Tetrault and Blake Grenier combined to make 38 saves for Fort Saskatchewan.

Vikings sail past Storm

Mark Vos poured in 28 points to lead the Vikings to an 87-72 win over the Sylvan Storm in Central Alberta Senior Men’s Basketball Association play.

Brian Thiffault had 28 points in a losing cause.
