Ross picked by Canada
Red Deer’s Adam Ross has been selected to compete for Team Canada at the world inline hockey championship for the second year in a row.
Ross, who plays U.S. college hockey with the Merrimack Warriors, is one of six defencemen named to the national team roster for the world championships set for June 6-14 in Ingolstadt, Germany.
Last year Ross competed in the world finals in Slovakia. The team won the division 1 championship, which earned them a promotion to the top division this year.
Raiders crush Spartans
The Lindsay Thurber Raiders jumped out to a 22-0 lead and coasted to a 42-10 victory over the Olds Spartans in Central Alberta High School Girls’ Rugby League play Tuesday.
Megan Brouwer, Sam Clutton and Breanna Beck scored two tries each for the Raiders while Tannis Kaun and Jackie Chapman added single tries. Beck added a convert for the Raiders, who led 27-5 at the half.
Amilia Hamilton and Katie Turner scored for the Spartans.
On other girls’ action, the Notre Dame Cougars downed the Rimbey Spartans 14-7 and the West Central Rebels of Rocky Mountain House stopped the Hunting Hills Lightning 17-5.
Melissa Wyntjes late try broke a 7-7 tie to give the Cougars the victory. Jenna Ronnie scored the other try for Notre Dame with Allison Taylor adding both converts. Alana Fittes scored the lone try and kicked the convert for the Spartans.
In boys’ action, Hunting Hills downed Rocky 12-0 while the Alix and Lindsay Thurber contest was postponed.
Titans toppled
Jordy Quinn scored four time to lead Red Deer Quinn Pumps to a 9-5 victory over the Sherwood Park Titans in peewee A lacrosse league action Tuesday.
Declan Johnston added a pair of goals for the winners while Kyle Gibson, Dawson Reykdal and Jeff Dewitt potted single markers.
Braves solid on weekend
Red Deer Dick’s Auto Braves won two of three starts in the St. Albert mosquito AA baseball tournament.
The Braves downed Camrose 13-11 and St. Albert 15-7 and dropped a 16-4 decision to Jasper Place.
