Schalk, partner win beach volleyball championship
Red Deer native and former RDC King Chaim Schalk and Martin Reader of Comox, B.C. captured the Canadian senior men’s beach volleyball championship.
The pair downed Richard Van Huizen and Christopher Redmann of Toronto 21-14, 26-24 in the final.
Both teams played on the FIVB World Tour this season.
Schalk and Reader were 2-2 in round-robin play, finishing third in their pool.
However they didn’t lose a set in the four playoff matches.
Raabis ties for third at seniors’ golf
ST. THOMAS, Ont. — Dave Raabis of Rocky Mountain House fired an even-par 72 (37-35) during Tuesday’s opening round of the Canadian senior men’s golf championship and was tied for third place, three shots back of leader Paul Simpson of Raleigh, N.C.
Merv Dusyk of Red Deer was tied for 34th heading into today’s second round of the 72-hole tournament after carding a 77 (38-39), while Frank Van Dornick of Camrose was tied for 47th after shooting a 78 (40-38).
Red Deer golfers Eric Brodie (38-41—79) and Tom Skinner (43-38—81) were tied for 66th and 86th.
