CALGARY — Calgary fullback Teyo Johnson is recovering after being stabbed in the back and will miss Sunday’s West Division semifinal against the Edmonton Eskimos, Stampeders head coach John Hufnagel said Friday.
The incident took place while the 27-year-old from White Rock, B.C., was at a concert Thursday night, Hufnagel revealed after the team practised Friday at McMahon Stadium.
Reports suggested Johnson was at a KISS concert.
“I’m a little bit sketchy with all the details, but what I know is that he was at a concert, he received a knife wound, spent the night in a hospital and will be doubtful obviously for this football game,” said Hufnagel, who spoke with Johnson by phone Friday. “The wound is not serious. It didn’t hit any vital organs and that’s what I know. That’s why he wasn’t at practice today and right now we’re concerned about Teyo.
“It did sound positive that he’ll have a quick recovery.”
A Calgary Police Service spokeswoman couldn’t confirm details of the stabbing.
Johnson had 18 catches for 172 yards and two touchdowns during the regular season.
