The Red Deer Sutter Fund Chiefs left it all on the line in their second game of the day at the Hockey Alberta Midget AAA Female Provincials.

Red Deer dropped their second one-goal contest of the day Friday night, a 1-0 loss to the Rocky Mountain Raiders. Earlier in the day, they lost 3-2 in overtime to the St. Albert Slash.

It was a battle back-and-forth all game long Friday night before the Raiders, who were the top team in the Alberta Midget Female Hockey League this season, potted a late third goal on a scramble in front of the Red Deer net.

“What more could we have done today, right?” Said Sutter Fund Chiefs head coach Bob Rutz.

“We had four 15-year-old defencemen that played solid. We had four lines that gave it their all today. Our goaltending was outstanding. Came down to one bounce, they got it and we didn’t. That’s a tough go. That was a lot of work, a real gut-wrencher.”

Chole Puddifant scored the only Raiders’ goal.

The Chiefs had plenty of opportunities both 5-on-5 and on the power play and finished the game with 30 shots but couldn’t convert a goal on Raiders netminder Gabriella Durante.

“We did everything right except put the puck in the net. We struggled putting pucks in the net since after Christmas. We worked for the chances. For the most part the work ethic was there. Just couldn’t finish,” Rutz said.

Chiefs goalie Chantelle Sandquist was player of the game for Red Deer with 20 saves.

Red Deer will play their final round robin game Saturday afternoon at 12:30 p.m. at Servus Arena.
