Sutter Fund Chiefs split weekend

Optimist Chiefs run unbeaten streak to 13 games

The Sutter Fund Chiefs were only able to pick up one point Saturday against the Calgary Fire in Alberta Midget Female Hockey League play.

Red Deer opened the scoring when Avery Lajeunesse opened the scoring but the Fire knotted the game at one midway through the first.

In the second, just 56 seconds in Grace Crooks buried shorthanded to give Calgary a 2-1 advantage.

Late in the third period, Aryn Chambers tied the game at two for Red Deer.

In the shootout, only Mackenzie Loupelle scored for Calgary.

Sutter Fund Chiefs goalie Chantelle Sandquist made 28 saves in regulation and stopped two of three shooters in the shootout.

Sunday, the Red Deer Sutter Fund Chiefs fell 5-1 to the Lloydminster PWM Steelers.

Red Deer Optimist Chiefs

The Red Deer Optimist Chiefs ran their unbeaten streak to 13 games in Alberta Midget Hockey League play on the weekend.

Saturday, they edged the Calgary Buffaloes 4-2 on the road and Sunday they battled back to tie 3-3 with the Grande Prairie Storm.

In the win Saturday, Brett Meerman, Deegan Mofford and Boogie Blackwater scored second-period tallies for the Optimist Chiefs. Daylan Kuefler added a third-period goal for Red Deer. Both Meerman and Mofford finished the game with three points.

Bretton Park made 27 saves in the win.

Red Deer needed three third period goals Sunday to earn the tie. Kyle Wallace, Kuefler and Mofford scored in the tie. Cade Mason finished the night with three assists.

Bantam AAA Rebels

The Bantam AAA Red Deer Rebels outpaced the Airdrie Xtreme Saturday.

Ty Daneault had two goals and an assist while Nate Danielson and Nash Bamford also added goals. Avery Trotter had two assists and Mason Gatz made 21 saves in the win.
