Sylvan Lake Gulls head to Moose Jaw to wrap up the regular season

The Sylvan Lake Gulls got a big win on Thursday night keeping them in the running for first place.

With an 8-1 win over the Regina Red Sox, the Gulls remain just one game back of the Okotoks Dawgs with two games remaining.

Sylvan Lake scored four runs in the first inning before taking a 7-0 lead in the third inning. The Gulls and Red Sox both added a run each in the sixth inning but Sylvan Lake came out on top 8-1.

Shortstop Jonah Weisner recorded three hits on four at bats and catcher Hank Dodson had two hits on five at bats including two RBIs.

Leftfielder Carson Coffield also had a successful night at the plate going two for four with two RBIs.

Gulls starting pitcher Jaxon Zanolli was fantastic on the mound striking out eight batters through six innings. He also held the Red Sox to only one hit.

Hagen Barcello continued the momentum striking out three in two innings and held the Sox to one hit.

The Gulls will wrap up the regular season this weekend against the Moose Jaw Miller Express. They played on Friday night and will rematch on Saturday in Saskatchewan.

On Monday the Gulls will host Game 1 of the west semi-finals with their opponent to be determined.
