Sylvan Lake Gulls pitcher Ty Boudreau tosses no-hitter

Gulls return home Wednesday

It was a franchise first for the Sylvan Lake Gulls Saturday.

Gulls pitcher Ty Boudreau set a new franchise mark in a 16-0 win over the Weyburn Beavers, tossing the team’s first-ever solo no-hitter.

The Calgary native needed 120-pitches to complete the feat, striking out 12 Beavers on the way to the no-no. He walked just four batters in nine innings. The Gulls had a no-hitter in their inaugural season, thrown by three different pitchers on Aug. 15 last year.

On the offensive side Saturday, DH Tyler McWillie led the way with three hits and three RBI in the contest. Left fielder Chase Rodriguez also blasted a pair of three-run homers in the game. Michael Polson, Kaden Zarowny, Cleary Simpson, Ben Prediger and Noah Hull also had RBI. Simpson pitched in three of the Gulls 19 hits on the night.

The Gulls kept rolling Sunday, crushing the Regina Red Sox 9-1.

Jackson Clemett led the way with four hits for the Gulls and an RBI. Five other Gulls had multi-hit games, including Polson, Zarowny, Jaden Lamothe, Simpson and Prediger. Simpson also hit a solo home run and had three RBI in the win.

Josh Tucker tossed a gem on the mound with 14 strikeouts on 104 pitches, over just six innings of work. The Spokane, Washington product allowed one run on four hits, with just one walk in the victory. Kyle Froelich and Ryun finished off the game for the Gulls.

The Gulls return home on Wednesday when they take on the Edmonton Prospects at Gulls Stadium, with firstp itch set for 7:05 p.m.
