The Sylvan Lake Gulls have dropped game one of the West Division Final 4-0 to the Okotoks Dawgs Friday night.
In a matchup of the top two teams of the division in the Western Canadian Baseball League, the Dawgs took the first game in the best-of-three series at Seaman Stadium.
Gulls pitcher Nicholas Veselinovic got the start on the mound allowing two runs on four hits and striking out four. Tyler McWillie came into the game in relief and pitched three and two-thirds of an inning allowing two runs on five hits. He also struck out four batters.
Dawgs McCoy Pearce hit a home run in the fourth inning to take a 1-0 lead. Okotoks would go on to score three more runs, one in the bottom of the fifth, sixth, and seventh to extend their lead 4-0.
In the bottom of the eighth inning, the Dawgs were pressing the Gulls with offence once again but with the bases loaded Tyler McWillie was able to get out of the inning without the Dawgs increasing their lead.
The Gulls struggled to get any momentum on the offensive side and only managed to get three hits in nine innings of work.
With the loss, the Gulls now face elimination with game two at Gulls Stadium on Saturday night at 7 p.m.
