The Sylvan Lake Gulls have won two in a row against the Swift Current 57s.
Both of which were led by back-to-back elite performances in the batter’s box by Lone Butte, B.C.’s Jonah Weisner.
On Thursday night the Gulls routed the 57s 12-4 in Sylvan Lake. The home team was led by Weisner who had five hits on five at-bats, including three RBIs.
On Friday night at Gulls Stadium, Sylvan Lake overcame an early deficit to beat Swift Current 10-3. Weisner continued his domination at the plate and contributed four hits on five at-bats with four RBIs
The 57s went up 2-0 after the second inning scoring a run in each inning.
Gulls Hagen Barcello popped up a sac fly to score the runner on third in the bottom of the third inning to cut into the lead.
Sylvan Lake’s bats came alive in the fourth inning knocking in five runs to lead 6-2. The first came in off a wild pitch from Swift Current. London, Ontario’s Nick Groves powered two runs in on a single followed by another single by Jonah Weisner who brought in an additional two runners to home plate.
The 57s answered in the fifth inning notching another single run.
However, the Gulls showed no sign of slowing down adding three more scores to extend their 9-3 lead. Weisner, Barcello, and Shea Bowen all came up clutch at the plate to bring more runners home.
In the eighth inning, Weisner batted in yet another run to put the Gulls up 10-3.
Starting pitcher Hunter Jones allowed three runs on five hits and struck out two batters in four and one-third innings. Tyler McWillie struck out two batters and only gave up two hits in three and one-third innings.
Cole Huebner closed the game in the ninth inning striking out two of the final three batters faced.
Next up for the Gulls is a matchup with the Dawgs in Okotoks on Sunday before seven straight home games at Gulls Stadium starting on Tuesday against Weyburn.
