Sylvan Lake Gulls win tight game at home against Giants

Gulls survive late push by Giants

The Sylvan Lake Gulls opened up the three game series at home against the Fort McMurray Giants with a 5-4 win.

Thanks to a Kyle Froelich solo homerun the Gulls got the homecrowd into the game and a 1-0 score after two innings. Later in the fourth inning, Ben Prediger scored three runs on a double to put the Gulls up four.

However, the home team let the Giants get back into the game when Fort McMurray scored a total of four runs in the seventh and eighth inning to tie the match at four. The Gulls were able to weather the storm and get out of the inning all square.

In the bottom of the eighth, Noah Hull hammered home a run with a runner on first and second to score the game winning run 5-4.

Ryun Cross pitched six innings for Sylvan Lake only allowing one hit and striking out five. Jake Finkelstein came in the seventh inning and allowed three but struck out three. In the eighth and ninth inning to close out the game Steven Hospital sllowed one run on htree hits.

The Gulls will play the Giants again Saturday evening and Sunday afternoon before playing Okotoks at home on Wednesday.
