Sylvan Lake Gulls’ winning streak ends with loss to Beavers

They’ll play again on Saturday and Sunday

The Sylvan Lake Gulls’ three-game winning streak came to an end on Friday night.

Sylvan Lake lost to the visiting Weyburn Beavers 2-1 at Gulls Stadium to lose the first game of their week-long homestand.

Both teams struggled to get on the board early until the Beavers struck first in the top of the fifth to take a 2-0 lead.

The Gulls made a push in the final inning and scored one run in the bottom of the ninth off the bat of Elnora’s Cleary Simpson who hit a single to drive in the lone run.

Sylvan Lake faced solid pitching from Ryan Meyer who struck out seven Gulls batters and allowed three hits through six innings.

The Gulls only managed seven total hits including two for two outings by Simpson and London Ontario’s Nick Groves.

Starting on the mound for the Gulls was strikeout specialist Josh Tucker who did what he does best and struck out 11 batters. He stayed on the mound for six and two third innings where he gave up two runs on three hits.

Oakville, Ontario’s Steven Hospital entered the game in relief and closed the remaining two innings with a strikeout and no runs allowed.
