Sylvan Lake’s Brady Durkin wins playoff at MJT tournament in Innisfail

He claimed the juvenile division title

A trio of Central Alberta golfers had success at the Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour (MJ) SAIT Trojans Classic at Innisfail Golf Club this week.

From Aug. 1 to 2 young golfers from across the province competed for their division titles but also valuable points used to qualify for the MJT National Championship in Arizona in November.

15-year-old Brady Durkin from Sylvan Lake took home the juvenile boys division over Edmonton’s Ryan Badger in a one-hole playoff.

Durkin finished the tournament on top after shooting 76 and 73 through the two-day tournament.

“I knew I could do it, but it was just a matter of staying consistent,” said Durkin about his second win of the season. “I’m really proud that I improved from day one.”

In the junior boys division, another playoff came down to the wire.

Red Deer County’s Ethan Korbyl, 17, fell to Jeremy Hart after the Calgarian captured a par on the first playoff hole.

Korbyl put pressure on Hart on day two after shooting 75 and 73. Hart shot an impressive 71 on day one but had a slight dip on the course on the second day shooting 77.

Meanwhile, Rocky Mountain House’s Kadie Forster fell short of the girls’ U15 division title. Through two days Forster shot 105 and 101 losing to Grande Prairie’s Emma Vanberg.
