Team Blue wins 2024 Alberta Cup in Red Deer

In a 5-1 victory over Team Grey on Sunday

At the 2024 Alberta Cup, Team Blue edged Team Grey 5-1 in the championship final on Sunday.

In front of hundreds of fans and WHL scouts and executives at the Gary W. Harris Canada Games Centre, Team Blue dominated in a decisive victory.

Outshooting their opponent 34-17, Blue was led offensively by Cochrane’s Jensen Marsh who had a goal and an assist.

Airdrie’s Aden Bouchard, Fort McMurray’s Hunter Colombe, Rocky View County’s Mirco Dufour, and Sherwood Park’s Landon Horiachka also found the back of the net.

The lone goal scorer for Team Grey was Edmonton’s Ben Harvey who tied the game in the second period before Team Blue scored four straight unanswered goals.

Calgary’s Leif Oaten made 16 saves for Team Blue and Team Grey’s goaltender Oliver Bryks was under a bit more offensive pressure making 29 saves on 33 shots.

Red Deer’s Easton Nafziger and Lucas Graham were unable to get on the scoresheet in the gold medal game but were on the championship team. Rimbey’s Finn Kelly was also on the roster.

Hockey Alberta also announced the Alberta Cup All-Stars including Red Deer’s Brock England who led the tournament with nine points (four goals and five assists) for Team Black.

Goaltender Seth Badry (Stony Plain), defenceman Aden Bouchard (Airdrie), defenceman Colt Carter (St. Albert), forward Luke Ruptash (St. Albert), and forward Jensen Marsh (Cochrane) were also named All-Stars.

Next up, the Alberta Challenge will begin in Red Deer on Thursday with games set through to Sunday. The tournament features the top U16 female hockey players in the province and is used to determine potential players for the Team Alberta program.
