Trautman, Maris named RDC athletes of week

Trautman picked up the top female award after allowing only one goal in 125 minutes of play for the Queens against the Grant MacEwan University Griffins last week.

She recorded her first ACAC shutout in a 0-0 overtime draw on Thursday, then allowed just a late power play goal in a 1-0 loss in Edmonton Friday. Overall she stopped 65 of 66 shots.

Maris put together a pair of strong performances for the volleyball Kings, who split a two-match weekend series at Medicine Hat.

The rookie setter from Edson was the Kings top player in a 3-2 loss Friday then directed the Kings to a 3-1 victory Saturday.

• The hockey Queens face the NAIT Ooks in a home-and-home series — Thursday at 7 p.m. at the Arena and Friday at NAIT.

• The RDC women’s cross-country team, led by two-time defending ACAC champion Jodi Sanguin, will compete at the national college finals in Kamloops Saturday.
